Sherry was the sixth of fourteen children, ( nine girls and five boys) born to loving parents, Wilburn Goss and Graceteen Morris Goss on January 19, 1954 in Jefferson, Texas. She was preceded in death by both parents and three siblings: Elma Parker, Irwinna Goss, and Ronald Goss.
Sherry and former husband Johnny Thomas had two children together, Duane and Shemika. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Jefferson, Texas, until the family relocated to Houston, Texas where she became a member of Mission of Hope of Ministry Church under Pastor Otis Richardson. She later united with Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Steven Mitchell.
Sherry attended segregated Central School from first grade through ninth grade until schools became integrated in Jefferson, Texas.
Sherry worked at Walgreen as a cashier for 37 years in Houston, Texas. She loved music, soulful gospel music, and jazz. Her new favorite song was Back To Your Place by October London. Her favorite hobbies were cooking and caring for her plants. She was outgoing, always talked to anyone that she came into contact with. She never liked the phrase “Saying Goodbye”. It was always “Talk to you later” and she taught her children to always pray and keep the faith. Sherry was known by her children as Doll Baby.
Sherry answered the Masters call August 20, 2024, at Hermann Memorial in Pearland, Texas.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one son: Duane Thomas, and a daughter: Shemika Thomas, both of Houston, Texas. Four grandchildren, Duane Jr., Tandria Thomas, Lyric Washington, and Hannah Dews. Seven sisters: Emma Turner of Dallas, Texas, Dorothy Calhoun of Santa Ana, California, Wanda Sasser (Howard) of Houston, Texas, Patrica Copeland (Horace) of San Diego, California, Kim Turner (Randy) of Jefferson, Texas and Marcell Goss of Jefferson, Texas. Four brothers: George and Howard Goss of Santa Ana, California, Welton Goss of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Phillip Goss of Jefferson, Texas. Two uncles: Paul Morris (Thelma) of Marshall, Texas and Billy Morris of Dallas, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, many devoted family members and friends.
Services for Sherry Dianne Goss, 70, of Rosharon, Texas, will be 11:00am Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Mt. Plesant Baptist Church in Jefferson, Texas and burial will follow at Coverson Cemetery in Jefferson, Texas.
Ms. Goss was born January 19, 1954 and transitioned August 20, 2024 in Pearland, Texas.
Sherry was 70 years old.
