Sammy Love Obituary

Services for Sammy Lee Love, 81, of Jefferson, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Linden Kildare High School auditorium. Burial will follow at Whitaker Cemetery under the direction of Lewis & Walker Funeral Home in Jefferson. There will be a time of visitation from 12:00 until 5:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Ebenezer CME.

Sammy Love was born November 11, 1937 in Lodi, Texas to the late Wilburn and Anna B. Love. He attended Ebenezer C.M.E. School in Cass County, Texas and was a truck driver for many years.

On August 26, 1960, he married Joan (Blair) Love to whom he remained devoted for 47 years and to this union 4 daughters were born.

He was a member of Ebenezer C.M.E. Church and was known to many as Sonny Boy or Shorty. He always greeted people with a smile and had a witty remark that would make you laugh. His impact on the lives of others in immeasurable. You could always find him sitting outside on the porch willing to hold a conversation with all who came to visit him and would never turn anyone away. He loved his profession as a truck driver and loved sharing the stories of the many miles and places he traveled. Sammy was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Willie D. Love; and two sisters: Bobbie D. Higgs and Wilma Marks.

On June 15, 2019, he went home to be with the Lord.

Those left to cherish his memories: four daughters: Viveca Collins of Lodi, Thea (Greg) Gaston of Marietta, Shekita (Ernie) Martin of Lodi, and Tonya (Chris) Mack of Kildare; one brother, Henry (Nadean) Love Sr.; two sisters, Carolyn Hodge and Shirley (Frank) Hodge of Lodi; 13 grandchildren: Tiffany (Alvin) Felder, Victoria Epps, Ashley, Shalonda, Greg (Shanice) II Gaston, MaKayla, Jarren, Kiara Martin, DaMarius Love, Skylar Vaughn, RaShun and Ronesha Mack, and Cameron Jones; 12 great-grandchildren: DeAndrey Samuel, Kadin Williams, Saniyah Felder, Charington Taylor, Mariyah Franklin, Jeremiah Franklin, Kaelynn Byrd, Layla Felder, DaMarion and Da’Carri Love, Haiden Epps, and Da’Korian Love; a sister-in-law, Dr. Phyllis (Nathaniel) Milton of Newport News, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
