Ruby Sasser Obituary

Mrs. Ruby Sasser was the fourth of five children, born on October 31, 1934, in Littlefield, Texas, to the late Peter Wiley and Ida P. Ross. She received her education at Fairview High School in Linden, Texas, graduating in 1952.

On May 31, 1953, Ruby was united in Holy Matrimony to Howard A. Sasser, Sr. From this loving union of 55 years, they were blessed with five children. The family made their home in Houston, Texas, before later returning to Ruby’s hometown of Lodi, Texas, where she continued to nurture her family, including two nieces while serving her community.

Ruby dedicated 15 years of faithful service to Marion County Hospital, where she formed lasting and cherished friendships with Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Smith, Dorothy Marshall, and Lorene Harper Johnson. After leaving the hospital, she continued her lifelong passion for helping others by working as a private caregiver for 10 years.

A woman of strong faith, Ruby was a devoted member of Ebenezer C.M.E. Church, where she faithfully served on the Usher Board and worked with the Youth Choir, encouraging and guiding young lives through love.

Ruby peacefully answered her Master’s call on Monday night, December 8, 2025, at 10:30 p.m., surrounded by her loving family. She is now reunited in eternal rest with her beloved husband, Howard A. Sasser, Sr.

Ruby will forever be remembered as an outstanding daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her five children: Howard Arnold Sasser, Jr. (Wanda); Shelia Sasser Rodgers (Bennie); Sonia Calhoun (preceded in death Robert Calhoun); Dwight Harold Sasser, Sr. (preceded in death Lois Sasser) (Barber); and Phillip Hartzell Sasser. She also leaves ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, and along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by her three sisters, Cordie Sanchez, Ida Bell Rhyne, and Eleazer Cestro, and one beloved granddaughter, Sandra “Jet” Blaylock. She is survived by her only living sister, Virginia Hubbard.
