Services for Mr. Pinkston Davis, 85, of Kildare, Texas will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Galloway Cemetery in Kildare.
Pinkston Davis was born in Kildare, Texas, November 5, 1934, to the late Henrietta Henderson Davis and Freeman Davis. All of his siblings are awaiting him in glory: Maudie Mae Davis Washington, Blanche Mae Davis Owens, Mary Helen Davis Spruill, Fredonia Davis Wiltz, and Connie Davis.
Henrietta was widowed early and struggled to raise her young family alone…during the Depression. It was during these tough times that Pinkston’s character was formed as he learned the value of hard work as a small boy. Throughout his life, he spoke often and with deep gratitude of older men in the community—Cousin C.D. Weaver, Alfred Ross, and his older brother Connie-- who taught him and helped him to grow into a man to be admired.
Pinkston attended Perfection public schools, served in the Army, and eventually followed his sister, Maudie, to Southern California in search of better job opportunities. It was there that he would meet the late Missouri “Connie” Davis. They were married for 54 years before she transitioned to her reward in 2016.
After retiring and returning to Kildare in the late 90s, Pinkston renewed his affiliation with the New Zion C.M.E. Church. However, wherever able hands were needed in the community, Pinkston was always there.
He will be remembered for his lightning smile, quick laugh, and deep loyalty to friends and family. Both he and Connie loved to entertain and were happiest when the garage was full— and loud!
Although he and Connie had no children of their own, his nephew Larry (Blanche’s), was especially adored and embraced being the son they never had. Still, he does not grieve alone—a host of nieces, nephews and friends will cherish Pinkston’s memory forever.
