Octeria Valjean (Edmond) Calhoun

Funeral services for Mrs. Octeria Calhoun, 95, of Lodi, Texas are set for 2:00pm Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Ebenezer CME Church, 118 CR 1775, Lodi, Texas 75564 under the direction of Lewis & Walker Funeral Home of Jefferson, Texas.

Octeria was the 11th child of eleven children to  Joseph and Mae Ollie of Lodi, Texas. Octeria attended and Graduated school at Ebenezer School in Lodi, Texas. She joined Ebenezer Church at an early age. Octeria married Robert Lee Calhoun Sr., on December 23, 1945. To this union there were four sons; Robert (Sonia), Alfred (Sandy), Ronnie (Loretta), and Joseph. Upon her bing married to a member of the US Army she was able to live in Germany and France. 

She remained married to her childhood sweetheart for 62 years until his death in 2007. 

She worked for many years as a CNA serving the community at Linden Hospital. 

She was active in her church serving as a deaconess for many years and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and caring for her family. 

She was proceeded in death by her husband and son Robert Jr., her siblings; Ike, Clyde, Claude, Henry, John, Ralph, Arbenetta, Hershey, and Emmitt.  

She is survived by her three sons, six grandchildren; Shandra Drayton, Jason, Jon Calhoun, Gene (Jasmine) Calhoun, Kristen Calhoun, Ryan Calhoun, and Morgan (Will) Adams, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family and friends. 

Her favorite scripture: Proverbs 30 “The saying of Agur son of Jakeh contain this message. I am weary, O God; I am weary ad n out, O God. “
