Lonnie Gerald McAlister made his earthly debut on September 2, 1949. He was the pride and joy of his parents, Luster and Marvin Vernice McAlister, and was loved far and wide by his community. After he completed his matriculation in Jefferson ISD, graduating from Central High School in 1966, he headed to Prairie View A&M University. He managed to build lifelong friendships while earning a degree in Social Services in 1970. His post-college life included a stint as a division manager Woolco before becoming disabled. But he never let it keep him down. In addition to running a successful landscaping business, he also managed to be an active member of the Jefferson and Marion County community. He united in marriage to Janice Scott in 1981. Together they raised her daughter, Miko, and his only son, Lionel. After they parted ways, he married Lois Brown, and they shared another step-daughter, Shalana Boyd. Lonnie joined Pine Grove Baptist Church and served as a deacon for almost 20 years. He was a constant presence throughout Marion County, known for being a stedfast and upstanding member of the community. He was called from his earthly duties on July 5, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luster and Marvin Vernice McAlister, his sister, Johnnie Mae Bledsoe, and step-daughter, Shalana Boyd.
Left to cherish Lonnie’s memory are his son Lionel McAlister of San Diego, CA, his granddaughters Janelle Jeffrey and Bailey McAlister of Dallas, TX, his step-daughter Miko Mathews of Dallas, TX, Lois McAlister of Longview, TX, who was married to him for 14 years and maintained a lifelong friendship until his passing, one aunt, Eva Parks of Texarkana, TX, two nieces Sharilyn Jackson (Michael) of San Diego, CA and Alva Bledsoe of Houston, TX, host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Lonnie G. McAlister, 72, of Jefferson, Texas will be 12:00 noon Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Kellyville Community Center under the direction of Lewis & Walker Funeral Home of Jefferson, Texas. Family visitation will be Friday, July 15, 2022 form 6:00pm till 8:00pm at Lewis & Walker Funeral Home.
