With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mrs. Lillie Mae Mitchell, a cherished educator, mentor, and friend. She departed from this world on February 2, 2025, at the age of 76, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, kindness, and dedication to her students.
For years, Mrs. Mitchell inspired countless young minds, fostering a love for learning and encouraging each student to reach their full potential. Her passion for teaching and unwavering commitment to education touched the lives of many, creating a lasting impact that will be remembered for generations.
Mrs. Mitchell will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and all the students whose lives she enriched.
A funeral service will be held on February 8, 2025, at 12:00pm at New Vision Missionary Baptist Church, where we will gather to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Lillie Mae Mitchell.
Lillie Mitchell was born on June 23, 1948, to her loving parents John Wesley Reed Sr. and Lovie B. Reed in Jefferson, Tx.
She attended the Jefferson, Tx public school system graduating from Central High School in 1969.
Lillie Mae Reed united in marriage to DeLawrence Mitchell Sr. in 1969 and to this union three children were born, Lovie Mitchell, LeDeah Mitchell and Delawrence Mitchell Jr. and they later moved to Houston, Tx 1971.
She began her Christian journey at an early age at Starlight Baptist Church in Woodlawn, Tx. She later attended Northland Baptist Church in Houston, Tx and she is a current member of the New Vision MB Church in Marshall, Tx where she was the President of the Deaconess Board, choir member and a food server for the local first responders and the Police Dept.
She worked for the City of Houston, Co-Owner of Mitchell’s Wrecker Service for 33 years, she also served as a para-professional for Aldine, Jefferson and Marshall school districts.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, grandparents, one daughter Lovie Mitchell, two brothers John Wesley Reed Jr. and Sammie L. Reed, two Sisters Nellie J. Wilson and Mary F. Benton.
She leaves to cherish her legacy and loving memories to her devoted husband Deacon DeLawrence Mitchell Sr. of 55 years. She also leaves to cherish her memories to one daughter LeDeah Mitchell-Price (Deandrew) of Houston, Tx, one Son DeLawrence Mitchell Jr. (Tiffany) of Woodlawn, Tx, Five Grandkids Tavieo Robinson-Houston, Tx, William Mitchell-Mesquite , Tx, DeLawrence Mitchell III-Woodlawn, Tx, Diamond Jones (Larry)-Marshall, Tx and Ta’niece Mitchell-Tulsa, Ok, two Sisters Mary Alice Hillman and Sheila Kennedy both of Jefferson, Tx and two Brothers Johnnie Reed (Jessica) and David Reed (Janet) both of Houston , Tx. Nine Great Grand Children and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lillie was a dedicated Wife, Mother, and the eldest of 9 siblings. Her love for God and her family never wavered. She was known for her strength and compassion for people and her service in the church and the community. She was loved by many and will never be forgotten.
May Mrs. Mitchell rest in peace, and may her legacy continue to inspire us all.
