Joan Carter Johnson

Services for Joan Johnson, of Jefferson, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Corinth Baptist Church in Jefferson, Texas. Burial will follow at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Lewis & Walker Funeral Home in Jefferson.  There will be a wake from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Joan Carter Johnson was born to Rosie and Fletcher Carter, Sr. on July 24, 1947 in Houston, Texas, where she graduated from Kashmere High School in 1965. She continued her education in college at St. Phillips in San Antonio. After graduating, she became a postal worker for 11 years. She then went to Panaola College to study nursing. She was part of the mass mission which was founded by her late mother, Sis. Rosie M. Thomas. Joan and her mother were cherished members of Corinth Baptist Church. During all of this she was a dedicated nurse for about 30 years until she retired due to sickness that later lead to her death. 

She entered into her eternal rest on August 10, 2019. She leaves behind to remember her homegoing, a husband, Charles Johnson of Jefferson, Texas; a daughter, Kimberly Johnson of Jefferson, Texas; a step-daughter, Anesa Johnson of Raleigh, North Carolina; and a son, whom she raised, Ronald Carter (Shamicka Harmon-Carter) of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Marilyn Smith (Robert Smith) of Jefferson, Texas, Gussie Woodrow of Houston, Texas; a host of grandkids, great-grandkids, step-grandkids, nieces, and nephews. Also a special daughter, Araiana Epps (Antwoine Epps); and three living aunts, Urma Jean Bolton, Gerrine Shrubs, and Bobby Shrubs.

She is proceeded in death by her mother and father, Rosie Thomas and Fletcher Carter, Sr.; her brother, Fletcher Carter, Jr.; her grandparents, Burdett and Carrie Shrubs; and her maternal grandparents, McKinley and Florence Walker; as well as her loving aunts and uncles.
