James Wallace Obituary

James Rolland Wallace
Born: February 27, 1943 – May 31, 2025

James Rolland Wallace, 82, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, in Los Angeles, California, surrounded by family. Born on February 27, 1943, in the rural town of Lodi, Texas, James lived a life marked by love, resilience, and deep connections with those around him.

He is survived by his four beloved children: James “Jimmy” Wallace, Jr., Frank Benard Wallace, Terrence Wallace, and Simone Small. He was a cherished presence in the lives of his grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and many dear friends. James leaves behind four grandchildren; three sisters—Jo-Alice Wallace, MaryAnn Taylor, and Aniece Bell; and one brother, David Sears. He is also remembered fondly by his uncles; treasured confidants Debra Small and Alice Wallace; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Lorene Wallace-Miles; his father, David Sears; his stepmother, Mattie Sears; his grandmother, Annie V; his grandfather, Welthis Wallace; his aunt, Joy Faye Wallace-Washington; his uncles; Clarence, Welthis, Jr, and Johnnie; his sister, Linda Kay Wallace; and his grandson, Terrence Wallace, Jr.

James’s life was defined by quiet strength, unwavering family devotion, and a warm, enduring kindness that touched everyone he met.

At age 16, James moved to Los Angeles in 1959 to live with his father and stepmother. He graduated from Los Angeles High School and later moved to Washington State with his beloved uncles, Edward and Freddie. There, he began his career in the industrial field and started a family.

In the early 1970s, he returned to Los Angeles to pursue entrepreneurial dreams, eventually owning and operating several Esquire Fish & Chips restaurants across the city. In 1982, he joined his father in the family shoe repair business, where he served thousands of customers with pride, expert craftsmanship, a listening ear, wise words, and old-school tunes playing in the background. He continued that work for 43 years.

James loved music and often spent his weekends cleaning and preparing for the day while singing along to classic oldies. He enjoyed relaxing at the casino, savoring home-cooked meals, and sharing time with his family. Above all, James provided a safe haven for those around him—his presence, his silly humor, and his quiet, steady spirit will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Service will be 10:00am Saturday July 12, 2025, at Ebenezer CME Lodi, Texas.
