Ida Robinson Obituary

Celebrating the Life of Ida M. Robinson
Born to Joe B. and Morena Lewis in Lisbon, Louisiana, Claiborne Parish, Ida was one of six siblings: Harold, Paul, Patsy, Wallie, and Joe Hudson Lewis. She was a devoted wife to Eugene Robinson for almost 60 years and a loving mother to five children: Beverly Kaye Gunter, Don Alex Robinson (Cynthia), Silas Eric Robinson (Christine), Eugene Rafael Robinson, and Terenda Regina Robinson.

A Life of Achievement & Service
Ida was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Texas College in Tyler, Texas, where she met and married her husband, Eugene Robinson, on July 29, 1961. Her passion for education led her to become a teacher in Carthage. Ida received her master’s degree from East Texas State University at Commerce while still raising the last 3 children.  She went on to become Marion County’s first, and only, female African American County Extension Agent through the Texas A & M University System; a position she held with honor and pride.
Through her work as the county 4-H Director, Ida became known throughout the community for her dedication to teaching children self-sustaining skills such as cooking, sewing, upholstery and nutrition education. She touched the lives of countless individuals in Jefferson, Marion County and beyond and her impact and legacy continues today.

A Life Filled with Love & Dedication
Ida was a woman of many talents, including her love of sports. She was a proud member of her varsity basketball team during her youth. As a mother, she was incredibly proud to see all 5 of her children receive their bachelor’s degrees— having three sons attending college on athletic scholarships.
She loved to travel; cruising with sister and family as well as road trips with Her best friend Mary Humphrey (Thelma and Louis!) brought her much joy.
Ida also cherished the memories of learning to drive. Her siblings fondly recall how she practiced by driving around the baseball field. She was an active and faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she served for many years.

Ida leaves behind:
5 children: Beverly Kaye Gunter, Don Alex Robinson (Cynthia), Silas Eric Robinson (Christine), Eugene Rafael Robinson, and Terenda Regina Robinson
