Services for Eddie Mathews, Jr., 74, of Jefferson, Texas will be 11:00am Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Jefferson Community Center in Jefferson, Texas under the direction of Lewis & Walker Funeral Home. 

Eddie Mathews Jr. August 29, 1949 - November 11, 2023   Eddie Mathews Jr., 74, of Jefferson, Texas, passed away on November 11, 2023. He was born on August 29, 1949, in Jefferson, Texas to Ora Lee Edney Mathews and Eddie Mathews Sr. Eddie will be remembered for his wide smile and larger-than-life personality. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed bicycling, playing tennis, fishing and cooking. He had a close-knit bond with his community and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ora Lee Edney, his father, Eddie Mathews Sr., his grandmothers, Corrie B. Turner Edney and Lannie Buchanan Mathews and his grandfathers, Willie Edney and Albert Mathews. Eddie is survived by his sister, Bobbie Craver (Robert Craver), and his nieces Kimberly Chism, Andrea Jenkins (James), and Kenya Jenkins (Mike), as well as his nephew Prentis Smith II and a host of cousins and extended family.   Eddie attended Texas Southern and was a proud graduate of Wiley College where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He had a deep love for education and cherished his time as a student. His interests in fashion led him to a career in sales. Eddie served in the U.S. Army (1969-1971) and was a respected member of the military community.
