Dorothy Raye Smith

Dorothy Raye Smith was born to the union of Johnnie Ferrell and Frankie Greenwood Ferrell on December 23 1926, in Jefferson, TX.  She departed this life on December 17, 2020 in Christus – Good Shepard Hospital in Longview, TX.  Dorothy’s formal education was obtained at Central School, in the Marion County School System in Jefferson, TX.  She was awarded the honor of valedictorian of her graduating class. Dorothy was a hard worker; keeping jobs throughout her childhood and adult life. 

She began her ministry at Corinth Baptist Church, where she was baptized at an early age, and remained an active member throughout her life. Among her many roles and leadership positions at the church were: Baptist Training Union, Sunday school teacher, usher board member, historian, choir member, mission member, and most honored mother of the church. 

She united in holy matrimony with Aphonso Randolph Smith, July 15, 1941.  To this union eleven children were born. 

Dorothy was proceeded in death by sibling: James Greenwood, Johnnie Mae (James), Eunice Baye (Robert) Mathis, Walter Ferrell, and Johnnie Ferrell Jr., and children: Sol Randolph, George Bernard, Kathryn Delores, and granddaughters – Donna Michelle Wagoner and Stephanie Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory are: brothers - David Ferrell and Norris Ferrell, and children - Paulette Theressa (John) Cooper, Jefferson, TX; Pauline Vanessa (Harold) Chambers, Dallas, TX; Jo Van (Leonard) Jones, Longview, TX; Marva Lois (Moses) Kelly, Kilgore, TX; Margie Nell Smith, Jefferson, TX; Allen Wayne (Donna) Smith, Jefferson, TX; Tara Marcel (Lester) Yarbrough, Tyler, TX, Lisa Lynette (Ernest) Harper, Jefferson TX.

Dorothy (Granny) was the loving grandmother of 22 grandsons, and 8 granddaughters, and 31 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a multitude of other relatives and friends

Services for Mrs. Dorothy Raye Smith, 93, of Jefferson, Texas are with Lewis & Walker Funeral Home

Public Visitation will be Sunday December 20, 2020 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm at the Lewis & Walker Funeral Home.

Graveside Service will be held for the Immediate Family on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, Jefferson, Texas at 12:00 noon.
