A husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was the first child born to the union of the late Clay Smith Sr. and Mable L. Smith on March 8, 1947 in Jefferson, TX. Clay accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Berean Baptist Church. Clay received his formal education at Central High School in Jefferson, Texas. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served as part of the 105 Artillery Division and was stationed in Vietnam for most of his military career. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes. Clay also enjoyed helping others and spending time and taking photos with his family, children, and grandchildren. Clay Smith Jr. departed this life on Thursday, August 25, 2022. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Mable Smith, his sister Sylvia Smith-Parker, his father, Clay Smith Sr., his wife, Delores Peel Smith, his brother Curtis Smith, and his grandson Marcale Davis. He leaves to cherish his memories: four brothers, Alphonso (Elva) Smith, Brian (Nett) Smith, Derrick (Fredia) Smith, and Terry (Theressa) Smith; sister, Clarice Rose; one daughter, Michelle (Mike) Peel Davis; son, Kevin (Loraine) Peel; two granddaughters, Mataya Peel and Marchelle Davis; one grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great-grandchildren, other loving relatives, and long-time friends Oscar Robinson, Ennis McAlister Jr., and others.
Services for Mr. Clay Smith, Jr., 75, of Marshall, Texas will be at 1:00pm Saturday, September 03, 2022 at the Jefferson Junior High School Auditorium in Jefferson, Texas. Family visitation will be Friday, September 02, 2022 Lewis & Walker Funeral Home from 6:00pm - 7:00pm.
Clay was born March 08, 1947 and transitioned August 25, 2022.
