Claude Lorene Rand Lewis Smith was born to the parentage of Lonnie Rand and Johnnie Rand on September 9,1929 in Jefferson (Marion County), Texas.

She attended and graduated from Judea school district, Smithland, Tx.

She was the third of nine children. Four preceded her in death: Theadora Blacklock, Lonnie Rand, Odell Smith and Buford Rand.

She was baptized into Christ at an early age at Shady Grove Church of Christ, where she attended faithfully until her death. She worked at Shady Grove for 25 years, ensuring the church was clean each week and ready for Sunday service. She was an active participant of the ladies ministry of the Shady Grove Church of Christ and assisted with all church events.

In December 1946, she married Valentine Lewis Sr. To this union six children were born, Claudetta McDonald (James/deceased), Jefferson, Tx, Gwendolyn Powers (Robert) DeSoto Tx, Willie Maye Greene (Charles/deceased), DeSoto, Tx., Vallie Raye Green (Robert/deceased) Dallas, Tx, Valentine Lewis, Jr. Jefferson Tx. and Karl Lewis, DeSoto, Tx.

In 1967, she married O.C. Smith, Sr of Jefferson, Tx and to this union she became mother to ten. O.C. Smith, Jr (deceased), Lewis Smith (Duke), Mesquite, TX., Frank Smith (deceased), George C. Smith (deceased). Betty Mathis (Cleveland), Forney, Tx, Alene White (Frank) Marshall, Tx., Dennie Smith, Seguin, Tx., Reatha Robinson, Irving, Tx., Michael Smith (deceased) and Lorice Andrews, (David/deceased) DeSoto, Tx. Three sons were born into this union: Melvin Smith (Polly), Jefferson, Tx., Keith Smith (Terri), Houston, Tx. and Kevin Smith (Delilah), Forney, Tx.

She was very active in her community. She was one of the first bus drivers for the Marion County senior citizen program, where she assisted the elderly in the community with transportation for their daily care. She was an active poll watcher and assisted with getting blacks out to vote and voter registration drives. She was very active in the school PTA, her children's sports activities and was a substitute teacher for Smithland elementary school. She was a member of the Jeffersonian club for five years.

She worked for the Blue Buckle manufacturing company and for many years sold Watkins products, which we all loved.

Her proudest accomplishment was being a mother. She took great pride in raising her children with love and being together. She loved to cook for her family, church and anyone who stopped by. Her specialty was sweet potato pies and homemade canned jellies.

She is also survived by 45 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, 63 great-great grandchildren. Two sisters: M.A. Andrews, Jefferson, Tx. Larnell Johnson, Marshall, Tx. Two brothers Marzel Rand (Corria), Dallas, Tx, Oscar Ray Rand (Eula), Dallas Tx. Sister-in-law Violet Rand, Dallas, Tx. A special adopted son, Rafeal Robinson. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives

Services for Mrs. Claude Lorene Smith, 94, of Jefferson, Texas will be 12:00pm Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Westside Church of Christ in Marshall, Texas and burial will follow at Douglas Cemetery in Jefferson, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00- 8:00pm  Friday, January 19, 2024 at Westside Church of Christ in Marshall, Texas.

Mrs. Smith was born September 9, 1929 and transitioned January 11, 2024, peacefully at her home surrounded by beloved family and friends.

Mrs. Smith was 94 years old.
