Obituary

MARIE ELLIS AND HARVEY PRUITT GAVE BIRTH TO A GOD-FEARING CHILD ON JULY 6, 1944, IN JEFFERSON, TEXAS (MARION COUNTY).  HE IS OLDEST 9 CHILDREN.

CHARLES ACCEPTED CHRIST AT AN EARLY AGE AT MT. OLIVE BEPTIST CHURCH UNDER THE LEADEARSHIP OF REV. HENRY BECKHAM.  HE ATTENDED CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL FROM ELEMENTARY TO HIGH SCHOOL WHERE HE PLAYED BASKETBALL AND FOOTBALL BEFORE BEING DRAFTED INTO THE ARMY.

IN HIS EARLY YEARS HE WAS MARRIED AND HAD 3 CHILDREN FROM THAT UNION.  HE LATER MET THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE ADA COOKSIE IN 1968 AND ON MARCH 3, 1979, THEY WERE BLESSED IN HOLY MATRIMONY FOR 37 YEARS AND FROM THIS UNION THEY HAD 4 CHILDREN ALONG WITH RAISING 2 AS HIS OWN AND NUMEROUS OTHERS.

IN 1980, THE FAMILY RELOCATED TO OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA WHERE HE SERVE IN THE ARMY RESERVE AND WORKED AT THE OAKLAND NAVAL BASE WHERE HE LATER RETIRED AFTER WORKING 20+ YEARS.

HE WAS A GREAT PROTECTOR AND PROVIDER.  HE WAS NOT THE DICIPLINARY ONE AS WE ALL KNOW HE WOULDN’T HURT A FLY.  HIS LOVE FOR HIS CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN WAS UNMATCHED JUST AS MUCH AS HIS LOVE FOR THEM HOGS!

HE NEVER MET A STRANGER THAT HE WOULDN’T HELP. HE GENIUNLY LOVED EVERYONE WHOLE HEARTEDLY AND WOULD HAVE GIVEN THE SHIRT OFF HIS BACK.  THIS IS HOW WE HAD AN UNCLE NAMED “BUTCH”.   CHARLES WAS A GREAT ROOTED SELFLESS PERSON WHO GAVE HIS HEART AND LOVING SPIRIT.  HE TOUCH EVERY SOUL IN HIS OWN WAY.  CHARLES WAS DEVOUTED HUSBAND, SON, FATHER, BROTHER, AND UNCLE.

CHARLES WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS WIFE ADA ELLIS (“LADY BUG”), FATHER HARVEY PRUITT, MOTHER MARIE ELLIS (“HOOTHIE”) HIS SIBLINGS, ALLIE PEARL AND DIANE, HIS SON TIMOTHY CONNOR, HIS DAUGHTERS CYNTHIA COOKSIE AND CAROLYN CONNOR-CALIP (GERALD CALIP) AND GREAT GRANDSON NOKOA COOKSIE-HALL.

HE LEAVES TO FOREVER CHERISH HIS DAUGHTERS FREDA COOKSIE & BARBARA COOKSIE-DEARBORN (FREDDIE DEARBORN JR.) AND SON CHARLES COOKSIE WITH ADA ELLIS BY THE WAY OF CALIFORNIA.  ALSO, HIS SONS PATRICK, WILLIE, MICHAEL AND ORLO. DAUGHTERS PATSY (ROGER TUBBS), MONIQUE AND ROSALYN (DEVONDRICK COLLINS).  HIS SISTERS REBECCA (BECKY), ADDIE, CYNTHIA (CINDY) (ROY) AND BROTHER GEORGE (MARGE).

HE MAY BE GONE, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN…
IN HIS HEART HE CARRIED US ALL, IN OUR HEARTS, WE CARRY HIM!
