The Legacy and Life of Bertha Mae Jackson Smith
Mrs. Bertha Mae Jackson Smith was born in Lodi, Texas in 1929 to the parentage of Sylvester Jackson and Cynthis Julia Jackson. She entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2024, at her home.
Bertha Smith accepted her Lord and Savior at an early age. She knew her bible and she loved the Lord. She was a member of the Jefferson All Stars Choir and they could really sing.
She was employed at an early age at Caddo Lake restaurants and later on in life she worked Cabinet Wood Works for many years until her retirement. She was a devoted church member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church, and later on when those doors closed, she joined Belview Baptist Church and was a devoted member until Covid 19 happened and she could no longer attend.
She was joined into Holy matrimony in 1945 to Sterling Smith and to this union eleven children were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling Smith, three daughters: Annie Ruth Smith, Piney Ree Smith, and Gloria Ann Smith; six sisters and three brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memories one brother: Thomas Jackson; two sons: Sterling (Spurgeon) Smith, Jr., and Kenneth (Shelia) Smith. Six daughters; Carolyn (Howard) Haynes, Annie Pearl Wheeler, Sweetie (Hardy Ray) Cole, Linda (Reancis) McCullars, Arlene F. Smith (Oscar Booth), and Beverly Miller (Eddie Ray Hill), and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren. A total of five generations and a host of niece's nephews and friends.
Services for Mrs. Bertha Mae Smith, 94, of Jefferson, Texas will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Jefferson Junior High School Auditorium under the direction of Lewis & Walker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born February 12. 1929 and transitioned January 4, 2024.
Mrs. Smith was 94 years old.
