Azzie Black Obituary

Mrs. Azzie Lee Stevens Washington Black, age 82, answered God's call on the evening of Friday, September 17, 2021, at Longview Regional Medical Center.

Azzie Lee Stevens Washington Black was born to the late Wiley Stevens, Jr. and Ila Jefferson Stevens on March 17, 1939 in Ore City, Texas.

At an early age, she accepted Christ with Murry League Baptist Church of Ore City, Texas, where she remained until she became a faithful member of Macedonia United Methodist Church in 1961, and was very active within the church. Always lending a helping hand when needed. She loved to organize the yearly Birthday Rally that was held at Macedonia. When her health started to decline, she had to pass the torch to other members of the church.

She attended Sunview School in the early years and later graduated from Macedonia High School in 1958.

On November 17, 1961, she married the love of her life, Mr. Frank Washington, Sr. whom she affectionately called, "Darlin"' and she was, "Baby"! To this union five children were born. Being a devoted wife and a doting mother brought her great joy. She loved to cook and bake; one of the best around. She was notoriously known for her potato salad and gingerbread.

After the passing of her first husband, she was united in marriage to her second husband, Paul Black, in May, 2005.

Those who preceded her in death are her parents, her first and second husbands, one daughter, Constance Washington Carter, one grandson, DeMontre Carter, one granddaughter, Sjonia Rockwell, two sisters, Clemmie Lee Stevens and Emma Lee Washington, three brothers, Cary Mathis, Robert T. Stevens, and Wiley Stevens III.

Those who are left to cherish her memory are two sons, Steve Washington (Tequilla), Frank Washington, Jr., adoringly nicknamed "fifteen cents" (Sharonda), one son-in-law, Gus Carter, two daughters, Sonya Washington Fraire (Rene), Veronica Washington Roberts (Michael), Grandchildren: ShaSheesta Durden, Frank Durden (Rebecca), Kendrick Conner, Myesha Conner, Quiameron Washington, Steve Washington, Jr., Mariah Washington, Emanuel Rockwell, Emerald Hunter, Emory Hunter, King Irving, Quavette Carter, Reno Fraire, LaDedrick Washington, Mychea Roberts, Michael Roberts, Jr., Jackie Roberts, 24 great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild, one brother Leroy Stevens (Nancy), one sister, Valerie Perkins (Charles), and a host of loving nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
