Services for Tommie Malvin Martin Sr., 62, of Marshall, will be at 12:00 noon Saturday, September 28, 2019 at First Baptist Church 523 N. Polk St. Jefferson, Texas 75657. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery under the direction of Lewis & Walker Funeral Home of Jefferson, Texas. There will be a visitation from 11:00AM until 5:00PM at the Lewis & Walker Funeral Home Chapel.
Tommie Martin, Sr. was born on January 12, 1957 and passed away September 18, 2019. He was the fifth of seven children born to Major and Annie Martin. At a young age, Tommie had a calling to God's service. His first church home was Church of God in Christ in Smithland, Texas. Tommie later found his home as a deacon at Victory Drive Church of God in Christ in Marshall, Texas. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1975 and soon after joined the Army Reserves where he served his country with honor and distinction. After his military service, he became a valued employee at Lone Star Steel for several years and later dedicated 34 years at General Cable.
On November 20, 1978 Tommie married the love of his life, Gloria Dixon. Gloria was a mother to five children that Tommie remained dedicated to as if they were his own. He would later have three children of his own with Gloria. Tommie was a remarkable man who was loved by everyone that he came in contact with. He was truly loved and will be missed dearly.
Tommie is survived by his wife Gloria Martin; and eight children, Alice Hendon (Derrick), Michael Rudd, Corey Rudd (Charlotte), Kelvin Rudd (Willishia), Sheletha Rudd Jackson, Youndell Rudd, Sherlet Nichols (James), and Tommie Martin, Jr.; eleven grandchildren, Gwen, Wade, Kaelyn, Charnece, M'Les, Kayla, Tony, Kahlisa, Shayla, Markel, and Broderick; six siblings, Belva Graham, Lula Green (Lee), Annie Lois Tarpley, Herman Martin (Illie), Major Martin, Jr. (Blondie), and Ben Martin; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, close friends, co-workers, and beloved church family and neighbors.
